Performing Arts

Spring Grove is a city bursting with a love for music, the arts, and family fun. The Ye Olde Opera House performs one-acts, children’s plays, and full-length plays from comedic melodramas to traditional favorites. Each July, Ye Olde Opera House presents a summer musical under the stars at the historic Ye Olde Gray Barn-- a working horse barn, transformed into a stage, with unparalleled ambience. The four-night production truly captures the spirit of Spring Grove.

Visual Arts

The love for visual arts within the city is apparent from touches of authentic Norwegian rosemaling dotting window boxes on main street, to the water tower, to a stroll through the Bluff Country Artists Gallery… one can see the talent bustling about here.

The Bluff Country Artists Gallery showcases fine art of the gifted artists of the bluff country region; encourages creativity through educational opportunities; and integrates the artist and the art fully in the life of the community. The gallery is organized, funded and operated by members and volunteers and is open 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday & Fridays and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Viking Memorial Park in the center of the city, features life-sized bronze sculptures representing heritage icons. There is a Viking, known as “Quest” as well as the old comic-strip duo Ola and Per. All of these works were commissioned by native Spring Grover Craig Bergsgaard, who now resides in Colorado. A lion sculpture also maintains a spot within the park, and pays homage to one of the city’s founders and first businessmen, Mons Fladager.

There's Music in the Air

Musical performances by a variety of artists of varied genre can be heard each summer in Viking Memorial Park during the annual “Music in the Park” concert series. The Spring Grove High School band and choir students also perform numerous concerts and events throughout the year.

Special concerts are often hosted at the Spring Grove Cinema as well.

Spring Grove is home to the Ye Olde Opera House, which performs an annual musical in an outdoor setting with the stage housed in a working horse barn (horses excused during performances, of course). It is truly a unique experience you won’t want to miss! Mark your calendar for the third weekend of July, or click here to visit the Ye Olde Opera House website for performance schedule and box office. The troupe also performs throughout the year indoors at the Ye Olde Opera House building in historic downtown.
